Based in Los Angeles since spinning out of UCLA in 2017, Nuvola is a privately held battery materials company rapidly commercializing a breakthrough direct deposition polymer separator technology for the next generation of high-energy batteries. Nuvola's advanced materials products are targeted at dramatically improving battery safety, performance, yield, and overall profitability. The company holds an extensive and growing patent portfolio spanning several new battery materials for high-energy and microbattery applications. Nuvola founders Dr. Janet Hur and Dr. Leland Smith performed some initial materials work while doing post-doctoral research at UCLA.
